Q: How do I donate with text?
You need a valid 5-digit shortcode. Example 30333. This is the number to which you are sending a text message.
You also need a specific keyword; example GIVE. Do not add any other words in the body of the text ~ only send the keyword as your message.
Once you send this message, you will receive a text response asking you to confirm with a YES or Billing Zip Code (for your wireless bill) to validate the text donation. Check to make sure it is the organization you intended and the donation amount you intended. If not, you may have the wrong keyword or shortcode.
If you send the confirmation (YES or Billing Zip Code), you will receive a message thanking you for your specific donation ~ this is how you will know it was successful.
If you do not confirm or send any other reply ~ NO TEXT DONATION is made.
Q: Is this only a one-time donation?
A: Yes. Each text donation is a one-time donation.
Q: How can I confirm my donation was successful?
A: Please see “how to text a donation” directions above. Did you get a “thank you for your donation” confirmation text? If you got the “thank you” confirmation it was successful, unless one of the errors below was received.
Q: I received the following error message:
Your carrier is not participating in this campaign.
A: Unfortunately, at this time your wireless carrier is not accepting donations for this campaign.
Donation Limit Reached
A: Wireless carriers limit the amounts users can donate to each keyword per billing cycle. You have received this message because you have reached your maximum amount of donations allowed in this billing cycle.
You will not receive add’l msgs or further charges from (Charity Name, e.g. Feeding America) $10 donations. Info? Visit https://mobilefund.org/a or contact 866.772.2079. Msg&Data Rates May Apply
A: This is the response that people receive after texting STOP. If the donor sends STOP again, this message will be received again.
Unfortunately, your, donation has failed.
A: More than likely you have this type of service blocked on your wireless account. You would need to contact your wireless provider directly to remove the block.
Keyword not recognized. Please confirm keyword, shortcode and send a new msg. Info? Visit: mGive.org/t or call 866.772.2079. Msg&Data Rates May Apply
A: You may have texted the incorrect keyword, misspelled keyword, etc. Each campaign has a specific keyword, linked to the donation amount. Also, only the keyword (e.g. GIVE) should be listed in the message body. Any other text will cause a system error and/or this message.
You have spent X amount of $ so far this month on XXX Campaign txt donations $10/Text. $30max per user Info? Txt HELP. To cancel txt STOP. Msg&Data Rates May Apply
A: This is a T-Mobile message. This informs you about what you have spent so far.
If you received any of the above responses, NO TEXT DONATION WAS MADE.
Q: I sent STOP to the relevant shortcode (e.g. 30333) but keep getting messages, why?
A: The computer must send a text message response to acknowledge it received your request. If you send STOP multiple times, you will receive the STOP Confirmation message multiple times. Think of it as the computer shaking its head to acknowledge that it understood you. This does NOT cancel your confirmed text donation.
Q: Can I cancel my donation?
A: Once a donor has confirmed, The Mobile Fund cannot reverse or cancel the donation. Please contact your wireless carrier if you would like to dispute or cancel a donation as we do not have access to their billing systems. Occasionally your carrier’s customer service agent will tell you only we, The Mobile Fund can remove or credit the text donation charge ~ this is incorrect as we have NO access to carrier billing systems.
Q: Why does it take 90 days for my donation to reach the charity?
A: Due to users having different billing cycles it can take up to 30 days before the carrier collects the funds from the donor. Once you pay your bill, your carrier sends The Mobile Fund your donation. 100% of your donation is then wired to your chosen charity.
Q: Can I donate via Credit Card through The Mobile Fund?
A: No. At this time, we are only able to process donations via text message. You may contact the charity directly to make a donation.
Q: How does the money get from me to the charity?
A: The donation amount is added to your wireless bill. When you pay your bill, the wireless company forwards the funds to The Mobile Fund. We collect the funds and remit 100% to the recipient charity.
Q: I am getting text alerts and want to be taken off the list or opt-out.
A: Replying with STOP to a text alert will trigger the system to send the following text “You will not receive add’l msgs or further charges from (Charity Name, e.g. Feeding America) $10 donations. Info? Visit https://mobilefund.org/a or contact 866.772.2079 Msg&Data Rates May Apply” This response is the computer acknowledging that it understood your command. It does not mean you have made additional text donations, other than any previous text donations you confirmed. If you send STOP multiple times, you will receive the STOP Confirmation message multiple times.
